We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow or PhD student to carry our neuronal patch-clamp work forward! We have recently perfected a technique to isolate and culture cortical neurons from hatchling painted turtles (click here for the article by Schneider et al 2025). The project involves using whole-cell patch clamp recording of various membrane currents from these isolated neurons while they are anoxic. Our aim is to determine if changes in neuronal ion channel function are responsible for their exceptional anoxia tolerance!
The post-doctoral position would be for two years. You can find out more and apply by clicking here. Please only apply if you have previous experience with this technique.
The PhD student position would be supported for five years. No prior patch-clamp experience is required. If you are interested, please email me directly: daniel.warren@slu.edu
